History of the
Stella Kermack Home
The Stella Kermack Home was established in 1938 and later become what we know today as The Old People’s Home.
The Old People’s Home has undergone significant growth and transformation under the philosophy and commitment of Stella Kermack. By expanding its capacity and embracing Kermack’s values, the home has been able to accommodate a larger number of residents while still promoting independence and quality of life.
Stella Kermack’s philosophy emphasises dignity, independence, and quality of life for elderly individuals. Her commitment to these values has shaped the culture and approach of The Old People’s Home, ensuring that residents receive compassionate care and support that honours their individuality and autonomy.
The home originally housed ten men and ten women but now accommodates over 100 residents indicating significant growth and expansion. This expansion includes the establishment of additional live-in facilities and retirement cottages to meet the growing demand for elderly care services in the community.
